Michael Xuereb at Malta's inaugural Contemporary Art Foundation
Malta's prime minister inaugurated the Malta Contemporary Art Foundation's first exhibition, ' A New Generation,' last week. Participating artists include murmurART's Michael Xuereb whose work is seen along side fellow emerging Maltese artists Adrian Abela, George Mario Attard, John Paul Azzopardi, Maria Bonnici, Karen Caruana, Dustin J Cauchi, Selina Scerri, Teresa Sciberra and Elisa Von Brockdorff.
Established in 2008, the Malta Contemporary Art Foundation aims to provide the premier platform in Malta for showcasing contemporary art through hosting solo and group exhibitions by established and emerging Maltese and international artists. 'A New Generation' curated by MCA director Mark Mangion will bring together the results of the foundation's most recent Studio and Research programme which Xuerbe was part of and which started in November 2009. As a critic has commented 'this exhibition is truly put up by a new generation of artists that are a breed apart from the majority of the older generations and also the younger generations that are still stuck on water colouring chapels and chipping away at Madonnas in wood or stone.'
'A New Generation' is showing at Malta's first contemporary art gallery, St. James Cavalier, Castille Square, Valletta, Malta until 7th February. To check out Michael Xuerbe's murmurART profile click here.
