Ian Giles in new group show at The Old Library, Cardiff
murmurART's Ian Giles will be taking part in the photographic Performance Art exhibition 'Reduplication of the Real' at the The Old Library, Cardiff, opening tomorrow. Curated by Neil Jeffries, the exhibition aims to re-instate documentary photographs of performance art events as independent art works, able to stand on their own.
Photographs taken of 'Live Art Actions' by both established and emerging artists will be on display. Jeffries has commented, 'these images are often fascinating, poignant and even humorous in their own right. They are a montage of esoterically linked everyday objects juxtaposed with a performer, focused in their entirety on a single, ultimately pointless, action; all frozen in a single frame. The photographs, with their distorted everyday actions and objects, can come across as a something anywhere between an uncanny distortion of the everyday and a gross and disturbing dream-like sequence.'
'Reduplication of the Real' is on at the The Old Library, The Hayes, Cardiff, CF10 1BH from tomorrow, 22nd January, until Saturday 6th February. To learn more about Ian Giles click here.
