Tours, talks and more including must-see weekend show at 176 Preview highlights key events at Gasworks and Parasol Unit and a plea to catch the last days of the......

Talks, tours and more are scheduled across town this week - whether it's up-and-coming photographers, curators under the grill or emerging graduate talent, the diversity and breadth of London's art scene is bound to take your mind off the cold January gloom.

The ever - forward thinking Charles Saatchi has recently unveiled his latest rising star of the contemporary art world - Emily Prince. Prince's work installed in the project rooms, at the Duke of York Square space, is a powerful and touching memorial to the US troops who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan. Comprised of 5, 158 tiny individual pencil portraits on calling cards, the work is very much 'in progress' and will only be complete on the war finishing. It's a penetrating and highly resonant piece that deserves to be seen first - hand.

WEDNESDAY

The Sony World Photography Awards Tour is stopping by London from 20th - 29th at the Art Work Space at the Hemple Hotel as part of it's international globe trot. Curated by Zelda Cheatle, the exhibition aims to showcase the strongest works by both amateur and professional photographers from across the world, selected by the prestigious judiciary panel including the likes of Bruce Davidson, Sarah Moon and Mary Ellen Mark.

THURSDAY

Following on from the success of Shaun McDowell's solo show at the Hannah Barry Gallery almost 2 years ago, the artist is back en-situ and will be put under the spotlight at the Parasol Unit, 14 Wharf Road, by Hannah herself and Ben Eastham, Head of publications. The talk will start at 7.00 pm but make sure you get there in good time as it's set to be quite a crowd puller.

FRIDAY

Head to Hackney Road to catch the Private View of Matt Clark's 'The Flagmaker' exhibition at Gallery Primo Alonso. The fruits of this eccentric artists' gallery residency will be on display - centred on the character of the 'flag-maker' a fictional man whose been under ground for thousands of years the works will examine his struggle in coming to terms with contemporary society and probe into the gallery's colourful history.

Or if you're up near Angel pop into Cubitt Gallery, established by a growing community of 30 young artists determined to run their own space. For their forthcoming exhibition all eyes will be on promising sculptor, Wolfgang Breur, who has been specially commissioned to develop a new series of pieces which are set to be displayed to extraordinary effect.

As we enter mid January and recover from the heady heights of last weeks London Art Fair opening, this week brings with it closing exhibitions, free gallery talks and the highly anticipated weekend-long curatorial experiment 'Testing Ground' at 176.
