Talks, tours and more are scheduled across town this week - whether it's up-and-coming photographers, curators under the grill or emerging graduate talent, the diversity and breadth of London's art scene is bound to take your mind off the cold January gloom.
The ever - forward thinking Charles Saatchi has recently unveiled his latest rising star of the contemporary art world - Emily Prince. Prince's work installed in the project rooms, at the Duke of York Square space, is a powerful and touching memorial to the US troops who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan. Comprised of 5, 158 tiny individual pencil portraits on calling cards, the work is very much 'in progress' and will only be complete on the war finishing. It's a penetrating and highly resonant piece that deserves to be seen first - hand.
WEDNESDAY
The Sony World Photography Awards Tour is stopping by London from 20th - 29th at the Art Work Space at the Hemple Hotel as part of it's international globe trot. Curated by Zelda Cheatle, the exhibition aims to showcase the strongest works by both amateur and professional photographers from across the world, selected by the prestigious judiciary panel including the likes of Bruce Davidson, Sarah Moon and Mary Ellen Mark.
THURSDAY
Following on from the success of Shaun McDowell's solo show at the Hannah Barry Gallery almost 2 years ago, the artist is back en-situ and will be put under the spotlight at the Parasol Unit, 14 Wharf Road, by Hannah herself and Ben Eastham, Head of publications. The talk will start at 7.00 pm but make sure you get there in good time as it's set to be quite a crowd puller.
FRIDAY
Head to Hackney Road to catch the Private View of Matt Clark's 'The Flagmaker' exhibition at Gallery Primo Alonso. The fruits of this eccentric artists' gallery residency will be on display - centred on the character of the 'flag-maker' a fictional man whose been under ground for thousands of years the works will examine his struggle in coming to terms with contemporary society and probe into the gallery's colourful history.
Or if you're up near Angel pop into Cubitt Gallery, established by a growing community of 30 young artists determined to run their own space. For their forthcoming exhibition all eyes will be on promising sculptor, Wolfgang Breur, who has been specially commissioned to develop a new series of pieces which are set to be displayed to extraordinary effect.

As we enter mid January and recover from the heady heights of last weeks London Art Fair opening, this week brings with it closing exhibitions, free gallery talks and the highly anticipated weekend-long curatorial experiment 'Testing Ground' at 176.
WEDNESDAY
As the Hayward Gallery prepares for five months of renovation work there is still plenty to see at the South Bank Centre and you can click here for a full listing of whats on.
This evening at the Hayward Gallery Project Space is the last chance to catch Rooms Without Walls: Silberkuppe"> an exhibition guest-curated by Silberkuppe, the independent and highly innovative Berlin art space founded by Dominic Eichier and Michel Ziegler. Bringing together a number of practitioners you wouldn't normally expect to see working together (visual artists, a collective, a Pop band and an interior designer), 'Rooms Without Walls' reflects on the history of project-based independent and collective cultural production in Berlin since the fall of the Wall.
THURSDAY
If you are in town and on your way home why not pop into the ICA this evening for a free talk about their current exhibition For the blind man. by Emily Pethick, director of The Showroom.
FRIDAY
Bringing on the weekend is another free artist talk, this time at Tate Modern Michael Rakowitz talks about recent projects including 'The worst condition is to pass under a sword which is not one's own'.
Not moving too far and staying south of the river why not take the opportunity to catch Do you remember Olive Morris? at Gasworks before it closes on Sunday. Take a short walk to London Bridge then the Northern line down to Oval.
SATURDAY
If there is one thing to do this weekend then go to 176 to see the much anticipated continuation to last years successful inaugural exhibition Testing Ground. Opening both Saturday and Sunday with a programme of performances and events curated by students from Goldsmiths MFA Curating and Royal College of Art Inspire MA, this years exhibition won't disappoint with a packed schedule including live art mentoring workshops by Junto, a collective of recent arts graduates; projects by theatre and experimental performance groups based in London and installations and screenings of works from the Zabludowicz Collection.
If you do decide to venture to Chalk Farm this weekend, then besides the escapades taking place at 176 you are also perfectly positioned for a short walk to Muswell Hill the see the highly acclaimed exhibition Museum of Everything as well as Eva Hesse: Studiowork at Camden Arts Centre.
