Billed as the UK's most prestigious printmaking exhibition, the Originals '09 is certainly going strong in its sixth year. Everyone from the big names (Sir Peter Blake of St Pepper's album cover fame) to art school students jostle together on the walls of the Mall Galleries.

It's a real hodge-podge of work, from monotypes to etchings through to wood cuts and silk screens. The feel is not so much exhibition as huge retail space in fact, not helped by some framing that errs on the side of beach washed IKEA. This being said, there is something for everyone here, with some definite talent (and bargains).

The etchings were the standouts for me, with Barton Hargreaves, Nicola Eels and Trevor Price contributing some striking work. A splattering of neon orange stickers suggested that sales were reasonable, but plenty of contemporary prints still on sale here at prices that even the cash strapped recessionista could not baulk at (quality original prints for under £200).

A good place to start that art collection. Go here for more information.
