'The Future Can Wait' is a show that I was really rather excited about seeing. Well, who wouldn't be engaged by a show that promised "50 rising stars and future greats"? Undoubtedly there was a lot of talent showing work in the exhibition. Many of the artists exhibiting there I have had an interest in for a while now. The likes of Sam and Luke Jackson, Hugh Mendes, Kiera Bennett, Kim Rugg and Rui Matsunaga to mention a few.

I attended the show with a towering hope of being treated to an evening of exciting and innovative art. However, my balloon of optimism began whistling and deflating by the time I had got half way around the 'very' large and empty space. While it is undoubtedly good for each artist to be exhibited in a way that offers them lots of space for their art to breathe I did feel that in many cases the art simply didn't sing loud enough for it to carry its message to the distant viewer.

Besides the artists I listed above being, as I expected, well worth seeing there were two highly notable pieces, one by by John Stark and one by James Russel. So it will be a fruitful visit for any one interested by the emerging art scene in some ways I am sure.

The exhibition will run from now until the 19th October. It is held in the Old Truman Brewery, 81 Brick Lane, E1 6QL. Click here for more information.
