I was fortunate enough to attend the opening night of the RCA's Painting Interim Show. It was certainly worth a visit. While not necessarily 'blown away' by the exhibition I did think that it was a well put together show considering it was such an inevitable mix of styles; the space was utilised well which is something of a rarity at college shows, and something evident at this summer's end of year show.

The work displayed was largely of a high standard and i saw a few works that interested me. Most notable were Alex Crocker's paintings which seem to hold a definite form so solidly while maintaining an air of looseness or freedom. It is almost as if the original image has been eaten away or dispersed over a period of time. There is real purpose in the way he manipulates his paint and chooses his colours and I continue to be interested in his work.

The interim show of second year students on the painting course will be running until this Sunday and it is most certainly worth a look around to see what they are up to at the moment. Some works are also for sale and commissions can be arranged on others For more information go to the RCA website.

Painting Work in Progress Exhibition, 7 - 12 October, at Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, London SW7 2EU Most exhibitions are open 10am - 6pm daily unless stated otherwise..
