Odette England opens a pop-up exhibition on the 8th October, World Sight Day, in the Entrance hall of the international law firm Lovells as part of murmurART's ongoing work with Lovells' Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
About the series
The Ishihara Colour Test is the most common clinical test for colour blindness in humans. But, like mirages and memories, the circles of randomised dots are just optical phenomena.
In this series, Odette England undertakes quasi-scientific experiments in manipulating the intended meaning and function of family photographs. Selectively and meticulously exposing personal snapshots through the Ishihara test plates, she explores how humans search, perceive and process imagery.
"The photographic artwork of Odette England is impressive on many levels, but what attracts me to her artwork the most, is the duality of its complex construction, i.e. her concern with form and structure, whilst also maintaining in her images the opportunity for the viewer to have a purely visceral response. She does not compromise visualness for concept. Attentional Landscapes deals with aspects of 'the photograph' that are at once complex in concept - time, memory, illusion; whilst at the same time igniting intrigue and the option for narrative invention through a quiet absence." Debra Klomp Ching, KLOMPCHING GALLERY, New York
