A vertical sculptural composed of hundreds of pencil shavings placed delicately on top of each other in a seemingly impossible endeavor of balance and foundation daggering up towards the ceiling. The piece has a fragility to it that draws the viewer in and engages our senses. Due to the piece being so brittle by its very nature and form it makes one query their understanding of the present moments constant passing and change. It seems to defy gravities constant tug and the teasing breeze that creeps through the cracks beneath the door. One almost is afraid to breath in its presence.

'Pencil Shavings' is undoubtedly a beautifully made piece of art work but it is not so much the way it has been put together that so interested me when I saw it at the 'Chelsea Motel' show. It was rather the way it stood so unimposingly and confidently in the centre of the room like something so familiar to us all and yet so strange and clumsy. A spire of vibrant circling colours dotted sporadically amongst the organic brown of the wooden shavings. In my mind this is a wonderful piece of artwork utilising lo-fi and 'unwanted' materials.
