I had a look in at the Well Gallery for the interim show of the LCC photography MA last night. The final show will be in November, but interesting to see the work in progress so if you have some spare time this week and can face the near-death experience that is the Elephant and Castle spaghetti junction, go take a look.

As you would expect from an MA interim, there is quite a variety of work on show here, some much more engaging than others. The artists also seemed to be limited to one or two pieces so only really enough to grab a glimpse. Based on this though, some interesting things going on.

Chris Stockbridge's 'Relative Space' uses cropping to focus on the negative space between two bodies, a father and son. Implying the continued existence outside the frame, it also cuts things short creating a disjointed relationship between body parts that become almost abstract shapes.

'But We Must Cultivate Our Garden' was a fuller collection than most, with Simone Koch displaying several photographs from the series. Bringing out the jungle in the urban, the work documents life in an urban co-operative community where promise and melancholy jostle side-by-side amongst the concrete and the weeds.

Perhaps most striking was Ingrid Berthon-Moine's video piece 'Midriff - Version 1', where an electric blue elastic band is held taught from the models vagina whilst being strummed in time to music blaring from the speakers. Referencing familiar cultural elements such as the music video or TV advertisement, the work apparently sets out to 'disrupt expectations in a humorous yet discomforting manner'. Job done.
