It's the start of 'art month', and marking this point is the first of a new and thrilling annual art and music festival in East London - Concrete and Glass.

The two-day event will bring together new talent in 35 galleries, venues and disused spaces from Hoxton square to Brick lane. One of the festival's two art directors, Flora Fairbairn, has made a name for herself for the creative use of empty buidings, with past exhibitions in the crypt of Kings Cross St Pancreas and in an abandoned abattoir in Clerkenwell, and C&G promises much for site-specific pieces, centred around the Heart of Glass open entry exhibition in the basement of Shoreditch Town Hall on Thursday night.

This concept of event-orientated art continues throughout the festival, with performance, film installation and kinetic art all prominent and it promises to be quite the antidote to, or vaccination for, the more canvas-based, convention-like fairs in the month ahead.
