Subsequent to completing his undergraduate studies in Fine Art at Kingston University in 2004, Ben Washington has exhibited internationally in numerous reputable galleries, including Bloomberg space (Artfutures 2008), 176, Tricycle Gallery, Istanbul Art Fair (Turkey), Indus Valley University (Pakistan), Paballon Cuba (Havana) and Fordham University (America). Washington’s mixed media sculptural assemblages often incorporate numerous elements of discarded materials and examine in the way in which we experience, visualize and imagine space. Architectural references flow through Washington’s practice as he constructs vaguely approximate landscapes and environments that take on different meanings when represented as objects.

The works selected for murmurART offer an accurate indication into Washington’s working practice. Each of the works involve a different level of technical skill. In ‘Advanced Military Layers’ the artist uses numerous 3D modeling programmes and altimetry data from NASA to process information from a real landscape, so as to arrive at a point where he can reconstruct the original piece of land out of paper in his studio.
