Graduating from BA Fine Art at Norwich School of Art and Design, 2004, Jonathan Aldous has recently exhibited at the Centre For Recent Drawing, Outpost Gallery and IPS Gallery in Ghent. Besides this Aldous has also recently co-established a project space in Bethnal Green entitled the two Jonnys'. His investigative practice examines our relationship to redundant objects, as well as those removed from their original functions. His detailed drawings demonstrate a technical ability that examines the nature of the medium by emphasising a strong reflexive tendency and questioning our belief in modes of representation. Thus the artist attempts to emphasize and distort the original features and qualities of the material to a point where the work adopts an autonomous status.

This body of six works derives from a larger series of drawings made by the artist. Aldous’s technical ability is compounded by an emphasis on the process of drawing as a method for working, in which each image, through a labour intensive process to accurately reproduce the subject continually shifts further away from the original.
