Emma E S Taylor

Careful simple forms, geometric patterns and a reduced color pallet make up Emma E S Taylor’s elegant and intricate visual vocabulary. Awarded this years Warden’s Purchase Prize, Taylor graduated from studying Fine Art at Goldsmiths in 2010 with her work entering the collection as she left. Taylor’s work is concerned with density, materiality, and the instant quality of simple forms. These slick minimal sculptures made from a variety of materials, MDF, lead and spray paint, through careful attention reflect her curiosity in architecture and linear constructions. Taylor’s practice works towards an understanding of interactions, not just within its own construction, but also between the unfixed variables in play and art, light and space, agency and objecthood.

Lead, Nails, Mdf, Glue, Filler, Spray paint

Taken from the series “80 drawings for the proposal of 80 sculptures” this work successfully illustrates some key areas of Taylor’s practice, existing as it does in an undetermined space between 2D surface and 3D form. The series of works began with an investigation on how to define a 3D form on to a 2D surface.
