Lauren Marie Sutton

First impressions can be deceiving, none more so than the work of Lauren Marie Sutton. Having shown her work as part of last years Jerwood Drawing Prize, Sutton graduated this year from studying Fine Art Painting at Wimbledon College of Art. Hunting through old family albums and collecting second hand photographs forms the source material for her work. Sutton then reinvests time back into these forgotten objects, not in an attempt to invoke nostalgia, but to explore the transformation of the information. Each of Sutton’s drawing’s are composed solely of biro and entirely of vertical lines.

The aesthetic of the drawings gives the viewer an instant impression of a technologically produced image, which contrasts to the time consuming practice of composing each drawing solely in biro and entirely of vertical lines.
