Mikhak graduated from Newcastle University in July 2009 and was selected for the prestigious Saatchi Four New Sensations Exhibition held at A Foundation, London. She has exhibited widely across the UK with venues including Embassy Gallery, Edinburgh, Globe Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne and Jagged Art, London. The search for knowledge and quest for intellectual advancement through research and exploration, is both the theme and methodology of Mikhak’s work. Using cultural norms and traditions and borrowing the visual language of different cultures she creates hybrid responses. These sometimes disparate factors are homogenised and unified by the print medium. The playful nature of the process allows the subjects to be seen in a renewed, fresh way. The result is familiar yet foreign, a position from which new ideas emerge.

Working in series, Mikhak is guided by process, learning about the chosen subject as she goes, constantly experimenting and reflecting. Her challenge is to find the best medium and technique to deal with the subject, both technically and conceptually. This interest extends itself into the way in which prints are experienced and how this can be an interactive, physical and engaging experience; for example by folding the prints, pulling them out of a 2-D state into three dimensions.
