Currently studying MA Printmaking at the Royal College of Art Laura Culham was recently shortlisted for last years ‘New Sensations’ exhibition as well as awarded the ‘Prize of Honour’ from the Association of Independent Art Schools. Working with sources from the periphery of general observation Culham documents unremarkable things as truthfully and as sensitively as possible, making the familiar precious and intriguing. Her work engages the viewer and invites observations to be made on an intimate level, where barely-there details have to be discovered, referencing the act of looking itself. Purity in the presentation allows for quiet details to be seen, when not surrounded by the noise of the everyday.

These three works by Laura Culham suggest a preoccupation to record with great detail inconsequential and fleeting events, while the use of delicate materials resonates with the fragility of the originals.
