Irina de Bertier de Sauvigny

Irina de Bertier de Sauvigny graduated in 2009 from studying MA Photography at London College of Communication and having exhibited largely in France her work was also recently shown as part of Montpellier Film Festival 2008. Her work captures the dynamic of humanity sublimated by nature; in the distance standing at the edge of the visible, wanderers confront the infinite void. Their journey through the ever changing mist - the landscapes of the Northern lights, the marsh wildernesses of the Scottish highlands. The infinite vastness of the void renders the ego obsolete, and the constant chaos of a world in flux, one capable of vanquishing our notions of permanence at a whim, seduces an audience into recognizing their powerlessness in the face of the transcendental.

These images express the artist?s continued interest in the relationship between the human subject and nature. The viewer's eye is drawn into the landscape by the figure situated within it. Evocative of awe and curiosity in equal measure, the enigmatic beauty of these images resides in the ability they have to capture our imagination and quantify the infinite.
