Nick Bailey graduated after studying Fine Art Sculpture BA(hons) at Wimbledon College of Art in 2009. He was recently selected to exhibit in last years Future Map exhibition at 20 Hoxton Square and was chosen as one of Catriona Warren’s Top Graduates of 2009. Nick Bailey has exhibited at the Adjacent Gallery and Et Cetera Gallery and received the Landmark Award for his degree show. Bailey’s work seduces the viewer through the use of traditionally tactile objects such as buttons, switches, handles and hammers. These often readily recognisable and archetypal objects provide a departure point for understanding the work, adopting both a familiar frame of reference as well as the more intricate language of whimsical desire and self-restraint.

An unmarked controller for something unseen. Regulating the unknown and absent. Potentially controlling some attribute of the space it is exhibited in.
Flick switches, buttons and dials constitute a formal language through which Nick Bailey’s work seeks to playfully engage with the viewer. These three works selected for murmurART illustrate the inventive way in which Bailey often works with new materials and practices new skills.
